Aaron plead guilty today and was sentenced as follows:
count 1. burglary 2nd degree, 5 years
count 2. burglary 3rd degree, 5 years
count 3. burglary 3rd degree, 5 years
count 4. burglary 3rd degree, 5 years
count 5. theft by unlawful taking over $500, 5 years
count 6. theft by unlawful taking under $500, 12 months.
To be served concurrently.
Now here is what will really happen.
Aaron was accepted into drug court so his sentence was actually probated. He will remain in the county jail and sometime in the next 60 days (give or take) when a bed is available Aaron will go to a long term treatment facility for a term of 12 to 18 months. His time there will be based on his progress during treatment. since he will actually be on probation during this time, he will also have to report to and obey probation rules.
Keeping the faith he will succeed!
Sounds like he has been given a chance. Our wish is he recognizes the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like an excellent opportunity for him. The one thing that I do believe is fact (regardless of where and what program you consider), the longer they are in it (and the minimum should be 4 months in my opinion), the more chance they have of truly getting and staying clean and moving forward in their life.

Laura, My son is in a very similar situation. He is in a residential treatment program for 24 months in lieu of prison. It is a terrific opportunity to learn a new way of living sober with counselling, daily AA meetings and weekly Al-anon meetings while working full time and doing volunteer work. Hopefully Aaron's program will be similar. Take care of yourself now.
